Labor Day 2026: RICA staff tipped on upholding professionalism
Staff of the Rwanda Inspectorate, Competition and Consumer Protection Authority (RICA) have been called upon to uphold professionalism, strengthen teamwork and promote accountability in the execution of their duties as public servants.
The call was made during Labour Day celebrations organized Friday on15 May 2026 as part of the Labour Month activities under the theme: “Partnering for skills, powering job creation, fostering local economic resilience.”
Speaking at the event, Director General Jean Pierre Bajeneza urged employees to reinforce consultation and coordination before making decisions, noting that collaboration among staff remains essential in achieving the institution’s targets and delivering quality services to the public.
“Professionalism, teamwork and proper coordination are critical in enabling RICA to effectively fulfill its mandate and meet the expectations of the public,” He said.

The Director General further encouraged staff to remain committed to integrity, efficiency and transparency while serving consumers and business operators across the country.
During the event, employees were also briefed on the Presidential Order governing professional ethics as well as the General Statute for Public Servants to deepen their understanding of the principles, values and responsibilities that guide public service.
Management emphasized that adherence to ethical standards and professionalism is key to strengthening public trust and enhancing institutional performance.
The celebration additionally served as a moment for staff to reflect on the importance of dedication, accountability and integrity in public service, while recognizing the role employees play in promoting institutional growth and effective service delivery.
Employees were encouraged to continue working collaboratively, respect consumer rights in the implementation of their duties and maintain high standards of professionalism in safeguarding the public interest.
On the occasion, outstanding employees were also recognized for their exemplary performance and contribution to the institution.
Mercy Asia Natukunda, an Accountant at RICA, was awarded the certificate of the Best Performing Employee of the Year 2025/2026 in recognition of her commitment to excellence, integrity, innovation, teamwork and public service.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mercy thanked RICA management and staff for the recognition and called upon employees to continue strengthening teamwork and customer care in order to further advance the institution’s reputation and service delivery.
